project scope
- Introduction to NetLocker Software V3
- Integration of the forklift guidance system (SLS)
- Installation of 7 NetLocker systems as decentralized delivery points
Expected volume: approx. 350,000 tracked items per year
Initial situation
Internal logistics on the corporate campus are handled centrally via the goods receiving department. From there, goods and mail are distributed across the extensive campus to destination terminals and recipients.
The core processes affected were:
- Rough delivery from central goods receipt to destination terminal
- Fine distribution to the recipient (personally, storage location, or mailbox system)
The existing internal solution was no longer able to adequately support these processes:
- The software is no longer being developed.
- There was no continuous track & trace journal
- Transfers of responsibility were not fully documented
- Recipients were not notified automatically
- Mailbox and locker systems could not be integrated
Main problem from the customer’s perspective:
Lack of traceability combined with the high logistical complexity of a large campus operation.
Objectives & Requirements
The aim was to introduce a future-proof standard solution that:
- digitally maps the central goods receipt process
- Completely tracks shipments from goods receipt to recipient
- Flexible support for different delivery methods
(in person, storage location, mailbox system) - Transfers of responsibility seamlessly documented
- Recipients automatically notified
- integrates seamlessly into existing logistics systems, in particular the forklift guidance system (SLS)
A mandatory requirement was feature parity with the existing solution, but without individual special developments or project software.
solution
During the project period, NetLocker Software V3 was introduced as a central platform for internal logistics processes.
The solution includes:

NetLocker as the leading system for registration, tracking, and delivery

Integration of the forklift guidance system (SLS) for rough transport to the destination terminal

Installation of 7 NetLocker systems as decentralized delivery points on campus

Use of NetLocker standard hardware modules for all relevant object sizes
Today, all logistics processes are mapped within an integrated platform.
Implemented use cases
The following use cases are in productive use:
- Registration of goods and letters
- End-to-end track & trace across all process steps
- Personal delivery via PDA
- Delivery to defined storage locations via PDA
- Delivery via post office box or locker facilities
A consignment history is automatically created during registration.
Every change of status and every transfer of responsibility is continuously documented.
In addition, NetLocker is designed so that events (triggers) automatically:
- Trigger notifications
- Initiate follow-up processes
- synchronize parallel processes
project implementation
The biggest challenge lay in the logistical complexity of the location:
- large campus
- numerous buildings
- high daily shipment volume
Nevertheless, the project progressed smoothly and according to plan.
The following factors proved to be particularly crucial to its success:
- excellent technical preparation
- close coordination with site logistics
- the use of a standard solution without project character
The only non-standardized component was the integration of the forklift control system (SLS). All other requirements could be fully implemented with NetLocker V3 “out of the box”.
Results & Added Value
Clear effects are already apparent shortly after go-live:
significant time savings in delivery
Less coordination effort between logistics and recipients
Significantly increased process reliability and traceability
Access to shipment history and search functions in case of delivery problems
Initial feedback from specialist departments and user groups has been consistently positive.
A quantitative KPI survey is planned after six months.
Why NetLocker?
NetLocker impressed in particular with its platform approach:
- Standard software instead of project solutions
- all relevant logistics processes in one system
- No media breaks between individual applications
- High level of integration into existing IT and logistics landscapes
- Flexible expandability for future requirements
A purely isolated or standalone solution would not have been able to achieve this end-to-end process integration.
Classification & Outlook
NetLocker is now perceived as a comprehensive, standardized and at the same time flexibly expandable solution on company campuses in Bavaria.
Project highlight:
The successful mapping of complex internal logistics processes on an extensive campus with around 80 buildings and almost 10,000 employees – on the basis of standard software.
